How to move a job through its stages

A one-off job carries a status, Quoting, Quoted, Accepted, In Progress, Done or Paid, shown as a pill at the top of the job. Most of the movement between them happens automatically as you quote, invoice and get paid, you rarely need to touch it directly.

What each stage means

• Quoting, a new job with no quote sent yet.
• Quoted, you sent or issued a quote. Trame sets this the moment the quote goes out, you don't set it yourself.
• Accepted, the client accepted, either online or because you marked it accepted. If the quote carries a deposit, the deposit invoice is created at this point.
• In Progress, you selected Start job once work began.
• Done, the work is finished. You select Mark as done yourself, or Trame sets it the moment you issue the final invoice from the job's quote, even if you never marked it In Progress or Done first.
• Paid, the invoice was paid, whether that's a card payment, Pay by Bank, or you marking a bank transfer paid by hand. Trame sets this automatically too.

Moving a job on

The button next to the job's title changes with its status, so most of the time there's nothing to look up:

• Quoting: New quote, or Open quote if one's already sitting in draft.
• Quoted: Mark accepted, with Follow up quote alongside once a week's passed with no reply.
• Accepted: Schedule work and Start job.
• In Progress: Mark as done.
• Done: Create invoice, if nothing's been invoiced yet.
• Any status with an overdue invoice: Send reminder takes priority over everything else.

The ⋮ menu next to the button covers the rest: Mark as quoted and Mark as paid are there for the odd job that needs a manual correction, for example work paid in a way Trame can't detect automatically.

Closing a job that isn't going ahead

Select Close job from the ⋮ menu on any job that isn't already Paid or Closed, no confirmation needed. A closed job stays on your record, it just stops asking anything of you.

Frequently asked

Can a job move backwards?

Only one way: if a client declines a quote, revising it can send the job back to Quoting automatically. Otherwise there's no manual way to step a job back a stage, closing and reopening it is the only reset, and that always lands on Quoting.

Does invoicing a job always mark it Done?

Yes, issuing the invoice from the job's accepted quote sets it to Done straight away, even if you hadn't started or finished the work in Trame. If you want In Progress recorded on the job's history, mark it before you invoice.

Does marking an invoice paid also update the job?

Yes. The job's status follows the invoice, you don't need to update both.
