How to create a job
Add a one-off job with a client, a title and a starting status in under a minute, or switch to a recurring job if the work repeats.
Every quote, invoice, appointment and cost in Trame hangs off a job. Creating one takes a client and a title, nothing else is required.
Create a one-off job
- Go to Jobs and select
New job. From a client's own page, the same button opens the modal with that client already locked in. - Leave Job type on
One-off. Switch toRecurringinstead if this is work that repeats on a schedule, that's a different flow, see setting up a recurring job. - Under Client (required), switch to
Existingand search for the client, or stay onNewand fill in their name, and their email, phone and address if you have them. - Give the job a Title (required), for example
Bathroom retile. - Add a Description if it helps, this is optional.
- Set the Initial status if the job isn't starting from scratch, see below.
- Select
Create job.
Trame takes you straight to the new job's page.
Note
A business client shows a Contact person field alongside the business name.
Switching a new client between Individual and Business only affects this
form, change an existing client's type from their own record instead.
Choosing where the job starts
The Initial status dropdown on a one-off job defaults to Quoting, but you
can start it further along:
Quoting, nothing has gone out yet, the normal starting point.Quoted, a price has already gone to the client outside Trame.Accepted, they've agreed to it verbally or by email. In Progress, you're already on site.Done, the work is finished and you're just catching it up.Paid, for old work you're logging after the fact.
Picking a later status is a shortcut, it doesn't create a quote or an invoice for you, it just sets where the job's record starts. See moving a job through its stages for how it progresses from there.
Frequently asked
Do I need to add the client first?
No. Stay on New under Client and fill in their details as you create the
job. Only their name is required.
Can I create a job without a client?
No, every job is tied to a client, either one you already have or a new one you add on the spot.
What if the job came from an enquiry a customer sent in?
That's a different starting point, see enquiries and quotes for how a
submitted enquiry becomes a job. Use New job here for work you're adding
yourself.
