How to issue an invoice from a quote

Turn an accepted quote into an invoice without retyping the job, then issue it to lock the price and start the clock on payment.

Once a quote is accepted, invoice it in one step. Trame carries over the line items, the notes, and the price, so you are never rebuilding a job you have already priced.

Create the invoice

  1. Go to Invoices and select New invoice.
  2. If the quote is attached to a job, choose From a job. Trame pulls in the line items from that job's accepted quote automatically.
  3. If the quote has no job attached, choose From a quote instead. This list only shows accepted quotes that are not yet invoiced.
  4. Pick the job or quote, then select Create invoice.

Trame opens the new invoice as a draft, with the line items, notes and total already filled in from the quote. The title carries over too, with "Quote for" swapped to "Invoice for".

Note

Invoicing a quote also marks its job Complete, if it isn't already. You don't need to update the job separately.

If the quote had a deposit, this is the invoice for the balance. The deposit itself was already invoiced and sent automatically when the client accepted. See deposit invoices and how the balance works.

Issue the invoice

While the invoice is a draft, you can still edit the line items. Once you are happy with it:

  1. Select Issue invoice.
  2. Set the Payment due date. It defaults to the quote's agreed payment terms, or your own default if the quote didn't set one.
  3. Choose Issue and email to send it straight to the client, or Issue to issue it without emailing yet.

Heads up

Once issued, this invoice becomes read-only. Line items, prices, and terms are locked. You can still share it through email, link, or other channels.

Frequently asked

What if I need to change the price after issuing?

If the invoice is still a draft, delete it and create a new one from the quote. Once issued, the line items and totals are locked, only a draft invoice can be deleted.

Can I invoice the same quote twice?

No. Opening the invoice picker for a quote that already has a final invoice takes you straight to the existing one instead of creating a duplicate.

Why isn't my quote in the "From a quote" list?

That list only shows quotes with no job attached. If your quote is attached to a job, invoice it from the job instead, using From a job.
