How to let customers pay you by bank transfer

Add your bank details once and they appear on every invoice automatically, alongside any online payment options you've connected.

Add your bank details once and Trame prints them on every invoice, so customers know exactly where to send a transfer. This shows up alongside card or Pay by Bank if you've connected Stripe, it never gets replaced by them.

Add your bank details

  1. Go to Settings and select Company.
  2. Under Payment details, fill in Bank name, Sort code and Account number.
  3. Optionally set a Payment reference. Leave it blank and Trame uses the invoice number instead.
  4. Set your Payment terms, the number of days from the invoice date until it's due.

Note

If an invoice goes out with no bank details on file, the invoice editor shows a banner: "No bank details on file. Clients won't know where to pay." Select Add them now to fill them in without leaving the invoice.

What the customer sees

Every issued invoice that isn't a draft shows a How to pay panel with your bank name, sort code, account number and a reference, each with a copy button so the customer can paste them straight into their banking app.

Once you connect Stripe, a Pay online option appears above this panel. Bank transfer keeps its place either way, it's never hidden as a fallback.

Marking a bank transfer as paid

Trame has no way of knowing a bank transfer has landed in your account, banks don't report that to Trame. Once you see it, mark the invoice as paid yourself. See recording a payment you took yourself.

Frequently asked

Do I need to fill in a reference?

No. Leave it blank and Trame uses the invoice number, which is usually enough for you to match the transfer to the right customer.

Can I change my bank details for one invoice only?

No. Bank details live on your company profile and apply to every invoice. Update them in Settings if they change and every invoice issued from then on uses the new ones.

What if I don't want to take bank transfers at all?

Leave the bank details blank. The How to pay panel only appears when at least one of bank name, sort code or account number is filled in.
